Pfizer Recognized for Leadership, Investment in Nursing
The Intentional Council of Nurses (ICN) recently conferred its prestigious Partners in Development Award on Pfizer during its 25th Quadrennial Congress in Melbourne, Australia.
The award is given every four years in recognition of outstanding demonstrated leadership and investment in health care capacity building and nursing bringing benefit to the health of populations. Pfizer’s Paula DeCola, Senior Director, External Medical Affairs, accepted the award on the company’s behalf.
“We are pleased to recognize Pfizer for their sustained commitment to strengthening and supporting nursing in delivering quality care,” said ICN President Rosemary Bryant. “Pfizer and ICN have collaborated on numerous initiatives over many years, and we are proud to count Pfizer as a generous, enthusiastic and reliable partner, and friend to nursing.”
In recognition of the important role of nurses, Pfizer’s External Medical Affairs group established a platform to engage nurses. This includes global research on nurse perceptions over the last few years in order to identify nurses’ key concerns and to identify areas in which Pfizer might support nurses and, by doing so, strengthen healthcare systems worldwide.
Pfizer is the founding sponsor of the ICN’s Global Nursing Leadership Institute, which offers an advanced leadership program for nurses at senior level and executive positions in developed and developing countries across the world.
More recently, Pfizer and ICN initiated a campaign against non-communicable diseases. As part of this work, Grow.Your.Wellness.com, a web-based resource center developed for nurses and other healthcare professionals, was launched. The site provides evidenced-based assessment and intervention tools to support healthy lifestyles and behavior changes.
Pfizer’s Dr. Jack Watters, Vice President, External Medical Affairs, noted, “Pfizer is extremely proud to receive this award which recognizes the power of partnership. As part of our effort to improve healthcare systems, ICN has been an inspirational collaborator in our pursuit of advancing nurses and the nursing profession.”
